The upcoming make-up artist design show (mads) in Düsseldorf, Germany (March 28 and 29, 2015) will feature a varied and creative program geared towards make-up artists from theaters, opera houses, TV studios, musical and movie productions. In several forums and workshops, celebrity make-up artists will demonstrate their work and share professional tips.

Top industry stars at the Presentation Forum

At the Presentation Forum, Belgian make-up artist Jos Brands will present an avant-garde method using an airbrush. With its large range of colors and textures, the airbrush technique can be used for any form of make-up. The Red Carpet Make-up with Elke Pflips (Düsseldorf) will focus on the perfect make-up for a big event. Pia Norbert will present her extravagant make-up for the entertainment and show business which she developed to ensure that the make-up stays intact long enough.

Highlights from film and TV

Traditionally, there has always been a touch of Hollywood in Düsseldorf’s exhibition halls. Stephen Murphy from London will create the legendary make-up of The Phantom of the Opera from 1925. He has worked on over 30 movies, including Gladiator, Mandela and The Iron Lady, and used his make-up skills to transform film stars such as Nicolas Cage, Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes and Meryl Streep.

The demonstration by Heike Merker and Daniel Parker will be all about tattoos in film and TV. Heike Merker (Berlin) has a long career in make-up and worked with actors such as Tom Hanks and Halle Berry. Daniel Parker is a fixture in Hollywood movies and he was involved in numerous movies including Troy, Apocalypto and Frankenstein, for which he received an Oscar nomination. His recent productions include Cloud Atlas, Zero Dark 30, Everly, The Coup and Unlocked with film stars such as Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, Orlando Bloom and Pierce Brosnan. His work has received numerous awards, including the BAFTA Award, the German Film Award and the Saturn Award.

Golden Mask International for Nick Dudman

Nick Dudman will also present his skills at mads 2015. He has been involved in over 50 films, including Star Wars, Batman and the entire Harry Potter series. The awards for his work include a BAFTA and a Saturn, and he was also nominated for an Oscar. At mads 2015, Nick Dudman will receive the Golden Mask for International Make-up Artists, presented by the Berlin company KRYOLAN for special merits and creativity.

Creative workshop

Held by professionals, the Creative Workshop will give trade visitors an opportunity to try out different materials and techniques. At the “Candid Camera – Tips and Tricks for Professional Make-up” session, make-up artist Diana Galante will show how presenters, politicians, talk show guests, show stars and other celebrities can be made to look their best. With the motto “Character Design – Just What We’ve Been Waiting For” sculptor Jan Ptassek will show a range of characteristic heads created from unusual sources. Neill Gorton and his session “Hollywood is Calling” will focus his well known prosthetics, special effects and animatronics for which received numerous awards.

75 exhibitors and brands

A total of 75 exhibitors and brands will be represented at mads 2015, offering the attendees a broad overview of professional make up, hair styles, special effects and prosthetics for the modeling of faces and bodies as well as for the creation of make-up and hair pieces. In addition, the special exhibition “Faces” will feature a wide range of artistically made-up heads and faces.

Supported by Kryolan and Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the make-up artist design show is a trade only event and registration ensures that admission is restricted to stage and professional make-up artists. Tickets can be ordered online at reduced rates at (1-day ticket: Euro 30, 2-day ticket: Euro 45). mads 2015 entrance passes include admission to the concurrently held BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF trade fair.
