boot Düsseldorf 2017, 48th International Boat Show, will feature a new highlight in the Surfers Village: a 32.8 feet wide permanent wave for visitors to try their surfing skills, whether experienced or newcomers. Beach bars, cool surfing fashion and the latest boards will form the setting for a unique experience: surfing in Germany in January. boot will take place from January 21 – 29, 2017 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Anyone can try indoor surfing
Before the start of boot 2017, visitors can register for surfing on the “The Wave” at free of charge. One to six surfers can surf on the permanent wave simultaneously, depending on their skill level. Beginners and children between six and twelve years old can hold on to a bar attached above the wave in order to get the right feel for the board. The deepwater wave is also great fun and a real challenge for professionals. They can use their own surfboards to practice without having to paddle out again and again. Surfing here will not only be possible on standard boards but also on small stand-up paddleboards (SUP) for the first time anywhere in the world.

Surfer Sonni Hönscheid as sponsor
Preparations for “The Wave” are in full swing and boot Director Petros Michelidakis stated: “Our designers are in the process of creating appropriate surroundings in the hall in form of fabulous Indonesian beaches. We want our visitors to feel like they are on a surfing vacation in Bali. “The Wave” will be a tremendous attraction and will certainly be a big hit with many children, teenagers and sports fans.” There will also be two special highlights: SUP world champions from Hawaii will compete against their top European rivals in the first indoor wave SUP Masters in the world (first weekend of boot). On the second weekend of boot, the classic Wave Masters surfing contest will take place - with Euro 5.000 prize money. The events will have celebrity support: surfer Sonni Hönscheid, daughter of surf legend Jürgen Hönscheid, will act as sponsor for the indoor wave and the contests. “There is no simpler, safer and faster way to learn how to surf! This is a tremendous way to familiarize a wider public with the most beautiful sport in the world,” said Sonni Hönscheid.

New pumps create waves up to 5.9 feet high
Since “The Wave” has a unique deepwater surfing system, standard surfboards with fins can be used, creating a much more realistic surf feeling than on other permanent waves. Surfing across a width of 24.6 feet on waves between 2.3 and 5.9 feet high (measured on the face before they break) is possible in the pool. The water has a temperature of 77 degrees and nine pumps produce waves that guarantee unlimited surfing fun.

“The Wave” project is part of the Citywave development of engineers Susi and Rainer Klimaschewski who have more than 20 years of experience in the development of action sports modules. The Citywave is the first permanent deepwater wave and is popular with surfers from all over the world due to its excellent surfing possibilities.
