boot Düsseldorf, the world’s largest trade fair experiencing 360° water sports, is about to set new standards: with considerably more than 1,800 exhibiting companies, it will reach the previous record while the exhibit space will increase again due to Beach World in Hall 8a. Overall, boot 2018 will occupy Halls 3 to 7, 7a and 8a and 9 to 17 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany from January 20 – 28, 2018. Messe Düsseldorf President and CEO Werner M. Dornscheidt describes the concept of experiencing 360° water sports: “boot has everything on show that water sports enthusiasts want to see. It is the international trendsetter in the industry and will have exciting new attractions. boot is the leading destination worldwide for everyone who loves sports in, on or by the water – surfers, divers and sailors as well as motor boat, inflatable boat or luxury yacht fans.

SUP continues to be the mega-trend in water sports. Therefore the length of the activity pool at boot 2018 will be increased to 213 feet. A new version of SUP will be seen there: foilboards which make it possible to skim across the water very fast. With the tow-in facility, windsurfing innovations will also be an important part of the trade show. Hall 8a, which is more than 10,700 square feet larger than the trend sport halls in the past, provides sufficient space for action, fun and games. “The WAVE created a stir at its premiere at boot 2017, so that international board manufacturers are joining in. We will therefore have the leading producers of trendy boards with us again in 2018 after years in which they were not represented. They will show all the boards and equipment in Hall 8a with its 140,000 square feet of space,” noted Victoria Marx, responsible for trend sports at boot 2018.

In the flat water pool (213 feet long and 15,000 square feet in size) visitors can ride the authentic deepwater WAVE provided by the citywave corporation (advance registration at required). There will be slower and shallower waves for beginners as well as faster waves up to 5 feet high for experienced and professional visitors. Surfing, SUP and windsurfing fans interested in water sports vacations can make reservation with international surfing schools and travel operators directly at boot 2018.

Diving has had mass appeal for a long time and is now more popular than ever. The recreational diving Hall 3 will be the place for diving experts, hobby divers, leading manufacturers and diving tour operators to meet. The Dive Center with the diving pool and diving tower will be designed like a diving base where visitors can experience live how a pool and tower dive is prepared professionally.

Protection of the world’s oceans and waterways has been a high priority at boot for a long time. “love your ocean” has been the motto since boot 2017 and the project received strong public attention due to the partnership with the German Ocean Foundation as well as the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the environmental activist Emily Penn. “People are shaken up by “love your ocean”. It presents the possible ways that the industrial and scientific communities as well as society in general can already protect the world’s oceans and climate today. The action stand in Hall 4 encourages anyone who is interested – including children – to get involved. I am very proud that boot is one of the pioneers in this field and provides a broad platform for it” stated boot Director Petros Michelidakis. Companies and projects that aim to protect oceans, waterways and the climate or present activities and underwater photography at Water Pixel World will be grouped round the “love your ocean” stand. Suppliers of pleasure craft and tow boats will also be on show in Hall 4 at boot 2018.

Bookings for “luxury” Halls 5, 6 and 7a have been excellent and will feature the gamut from fast, streamlined tenders and fast tow-in motor boats to large luxury yachts. “Think of the classically beautiful motor boats from Frauscher or Riva, of luxurious creations by Princess or the Majesty from Gulfcraft, which will be on show at boot for the first time,” said Petros Michelidakis. Arne von Heimendahl, boot 2018 Project Manager, added: “We are delighted that we will be even bigger, better and more diverse in the luxury sector in 2018 than we have been in the past. It will be fascinating to watch the boats arrive that are coming to Düsseldorf via the Rhine river. Their will travel together on a pontoon on the Rhine from Rotterdam to Düsseldorf and arrive beginning of January.” Even more luxurious and larger boats and yachts will be on show in Hall 7a where international shipyards present yachts more than 131 feet long. The focus of boot INTERIOR, jointly organized by Delius-Klasing Verlag and boot Düsseldorf will be on the (luxurious) interior design of luxury yachts. “Nothing is left to be desired here. Not only luxury interior furnishings are presented but also special technical innovations”, explained Petros Michelidakis.

The luxury segment at boot 2018 will be complemented by the German Superyacht Conference organized by the magazine boote EXCLUSIV on January 24, 2018 in the in the Tulip Inn Hotel next to the fairgrounds. Top speakers addressing superyacht issues will include: yacht designer André Hoek (Revival of the J Class), the Captain of the “Kamalaya” Christoph Schäfer (Superyacht cruising off the well-known routes), yacht designer Ken Freivokh (The era of the gigasailors), Dr. Carlos Jahn, Head of the Institute for Maritime Logistics at Harburg Technical University Hans-Georg Schnauffer and Professor at Fraunhofer IFF as well as Dr. Ing. Marco Jung, Departmental Manager for power converters and electric propulsion systems / maritime electromobility at the Fraunhofer IWES. The Superyacht Conference is designed for the international visitors, with the lectures in German and English. Registration at

Halls 9 and 10 will be devoted to motor boats and yachts, boats with outboard motors and jet skis and are already fully booked. “There was a real run on these two halls this year. Everyone who is anyone in the international motor boat market will be represented here. Both newcomers and experienced boat owners will find an attractive selection of vessels in both halls,” said Arne von Heimendahl. Newcomers get tips at the START BOATING stand in Hall 10 and can experience a virtual motor boat trip down the Rhine river.

The latest equipment and electronics for motor and sail boats can be found in Hall 11. In addition, experts will be on hand at the Refit Center to give advice about the restoration and renovation of second-hand boats.

Beach Life in Hall 12 will offer a wide range of maritime clothing, decorative articles and accessories. The lounge with free WLAN access for all members will also be in Hall 12. Membership of the is free of charge and entitles members to buy reduced online tickets for boot 2018 (EUR 15). To date, the club has 90,000 members.

The focus of Hall 13 will be on vacations by and on the water. Visitors can try out paddling on a 295 feet artificial river and see the most beautiful destinations for water sports vacations presented on the stage at the new Travel World. Hall 13 at boot will not only include houseboat suppliers but also charter companies and well-known travel agencies where bookings can be made directly.

Marinas, charter companies and sailing schools will highlight popular international sailing locations in Hall 14. This hall will also feature water sports associations providing information about sailing and motor boating on oceans, waterways and lakes.

“A look at Halls 15 to 17 will make any sailor’s heart beat faster. We are expecting numerous boat premieres, also when it comes to large 60 to 70 foot sailing yachts. The halls will be completely full. We are registering substantial growth with multihull boats in particular. Interest in multihull models has also increased by leaps and bounds on the back of a veritable boom in recreational sailing,” commented Petros Michelidakis. Current developments and trends such as foiling and reports by professionals and blue water sailors will be the focus on the sailing stage in Hall 15. Different aspects of recreational sailing will be covered at the Sailing Center, with a program consisting of over 200 different items and more than 70 speakers over a period of nine days – surrounded by 20 stands representing the class associations.

Protection of the world’s oceans and waterways has been an important issue for boot Düsseldorf for many years. On behalf of his foundation, the German Ocean Foundation and boot, Prince Albert of Monaco for the first time called on the scientific and industrial communities as well as society in general to enter projects for the “ocean tribute” Award 2018 when he visited boot 2017. “And this should be done as quickly as possible because our prestigious jury studies the entries very conscientiously and will be examining each individual one closely to determine its benefits for ocean and waterway protection. That takes a great deal of time,” stressed Petros Michelidakis. Projects can be registered at, with an outline presenting the concept on a maximum of two pages, information about the objectives, the target group, the implementation methods and organization as well as the results and the individuals making up the team. The jury will then choose the nominated projects which will be presented to the public with photographic and video material at The winners of the three Awards in the science, industry and society categories will be announced and honored at boot Düsseldorf in January 2018.
