BOOT 2019: MORE THAN 2,000 EXHIBITORS ON BOARD FOR THE FIRST TIME

At its 50th anniversary, boot 2019 - the world’s largest and leading international water sports trade fair – will have another reason to celebrate: for the first time, about 2,000 exhibitors will participate on 2.3 million square feet in 16 halls, focusing on the topic “Experience 360° Watersports”. The event will take place from January 19 – 27, 2019 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Water sports show and industry event
“boot Düsseldorf is the only trade fair in the world that truly represents the diversity of the industry. With manufacturers from over 70 countries expected to attend, we are unique in showcasing such a wide range of products. 1,500 sailing and motor boats have found their trade fair home at boot,” explained boot Director Petros Michelidakis. The visitors at boot are equally diverse: they come from over 102 different countries. “This means that boot is not simply a show for regional visitors, rather, it is a recognized international industry event, characterized by its B2B platform. This is how decision makers from large charter companies, for example, use the trade fair: to gain a comprehensive overview of the market, to make direct contact with manufacturers and to make comparisons,” added Petros Michelidakis. And this is increasing since charters are becoming more and more popular among boot visitors and exhibitors and are a real trend in the industry.

Trend towards luxury: Tender and chase boats
Trends at the upcoming boot will be luxury tender and chase boats. Among the top providers in this category present at boot 2019 will be Sacs, Wally and Skipper. Mass manufacturers such as Fairline, Princess, Jeanneau and Hanse will also display their new products in this segment. Since many yacht owners like to have luxury tenders that match their yachts, the boot team placed all manufacturers of luxury boats and yachts in neighboring halls: halls 5 (luxury tenders), 6 (luxury yachts and tenders) and 7a (Super Yacht Show). “There’s hardly an inch of space available,” stated boot Project Manager Arne von Heimendahl.

Demand for large sailing yachts and multihull boats
In the sailing halls 15,16 and 17, virtually all of the big shipyards will be represented - with boats in all sizes and classes. “The biggest sailing yacht at boot 2018 was the Oyster 745 and we expect to see a few more yachts from Oyster and Nautor’s Swan yards on this scale at our anniversary,” said Petros Michelidakis. Multihull boats, especially catamarans and trimarans, will also be in high demand in 2019.

Among the newcomers in the sailing sector will be the organizers of the Clipper Race presenting their exciting regatta at boot 2019, which takes adventurous sailors across the oceans for 11 months. This is not only for professionals but also for passionate hobby sailors. (www.clipperroundtheworld.com)

Market leaders at the Dive Center - boot celebrates 100th birthday of diving film pioneer Hans Hass
Sailboats and motor yachts remain the core of boot, but in 2019, boot will reflect the entire water sports industry. Hall 3 with the newly designed Dive Center in the style of a Pacific diving base will be a special highlight. Leading manufacturers such as Aqualung, Suunto, Cressi, Garmin and Mares will showcase their latest products, sometimes in authentic underwater conditions, in the diving tower and diving pool. International diving sports associations will be on hand to inform beginners as well as experienced divers. January 23 will be dedicated to Hans Hass, one of the most important personalities of diving sports and underwater research, who would have turned 100 years old on that day. The activities will be organized in cooperation with the Association of German Skin Divers, the Hans Hass Institute and the Düsseldorf Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum.

boot presents current trend sports
Even at the mature age of 50, boot is still young and more cutting-edge than ever. “Our goal is always to follow the market closely and to implement the current trends into the trade fair or to create new trends them ourselves,” commented Petros Michelidakis. For example, tow-in windsurfing was introduced on the 196 feet flatwater pool at boot in 2018. The gigantic standing wave, THE WAVE, is also a trendsetter. Visitors can surf on its 5 feet high, 29 feet wide wave. Advance online registration opens in December.

Marine protection
A special feature of boot Düsseldorf is that it is not only provides an important economic impetus for the industry but has also been actively involved in projects for the protection of the oceans for many years. This has resulted in own campaigns such as the "ocean tribute" award and the "love your ocean" campaign, which achieve a high media resonance and thus draw awareness to this highly important topic. The British sailor and marine activist Emily Penn is also a prominent and successful ambassador for boot Düsseldorf. The “love your ocean” stand at the trade fair has been presenting methods and ideas for marine protection, advising on the quality of water and inviting children to participate and become researchers themselves since 2017. The “ocean tribute” Award was also created in 2017 and was awarded for the first time at boot 2018. Projects and initiatives from around the world dedicated to marine protection can apply online to win the “ocean tribute” Award 2019 at . The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the German Ocean Foundation along with the diving scooter manufacturer Seabob as a sponsor, are involved in this initiative. Talks with other prominent environmental and marine conservationists are currently underway. The firm partnership for the “ocean tribute” award from boot Düsseldorf with the German Ocean Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is based on many years of cooperation.
