EuroCIS 2013, Europe’s leading trade fair for retail technology, recently closed in Düsseldorf, Germany to successful results: the 7,040 trade visitors marked an increase of 10% compared to the last staging in 2012 and the 233 exhibitors from 22 countries occupied 73,300 square feet of net exhibit space - an 8% growth in contrast to last year.

“EuroCIS 2013 started with two great days. The last day was somewhat affected by the airport strike but this was nonetheless the largest EuroCIS since its launch as a stand-alone event. Attendees praised the extraordinarily high level of exhibitor presentations while visitors impressed exhibitors with their high decision-making competence,” stated Hans Werner Reinhard, Deputy Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf

Ulrich Spaan, Member of the Board and VP Trade Shows + Research at the EHI Retail Institute, added: “We are extremely satisfied with EuroCIS 2013. It has notably maintained its position as Europe’s leading trade fair for retail technology while underlining the strategic importance of technology for retail just as impressively. We are particularly delighted with the high percentage of international visitors.”

The international trade visitors at EuroCIS 2013 came from 41 countries. The top five nations after Germany were the Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, Italy and France.

Top Themes: Integration of Web, Mobile, Social Media and Bricks & Mortar

The topics covered by EuroCIS 2013 above all reflected the rapid developments in Smartphones and Tablets. Exhibitors showcased a particularly high number of innovative and forward-looking solutions for the mobile segment. The integration of web, mobile, social media and offline business was a main theme of suppliers and retail decision-makers at the stands.

The EHI Retail Institute’s study “IT Trends in Retailing” presented at EuroCIS 2013 showed that the number of retail companies planning multi-channel projects has almost doubled compared to 2011. One in two companies is currently looking at multi-channel integration. This was also emphasized by the Multi-Channel Forum “Multi-Channel in Practice – Strategies, Concepts and Solutions” at EuroCIS 2013.

In terms of "classic" retail topics there was a strong demand for supply chain management, business intelligence and the wide spectrum of PoS solutions as well as payment and loss prevention technology at EuroCIS 2013.

After its debut in 2012, the “Fashion Select Village” succeeded in further strengthened its position within EuroCIS. Speaking for Mobi Media, one of the nine companies offering custom IT solutions specifically for the fashion industry at the Fashion Select Village, Hannes Rambold at Mobi Media management, remarked: “The trade fair went well. The traffic at our stand within the Fashion Select Village was twice as high as two years ago when we took part with just one stand - we feel “in very good hands. It is appropriate to address retail according to segments, in our case the fashion sector. We had thorough consulting sessions with both industry and retail representatives.”

The next EuroCIS will be held as part of EuroShop 2014 (The World’s Leading Retail Trade Fair) from February 16 – 20, 2014 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
