GDS 2017 PRESENTS AUTUMN/WINTER 2017/2018 FOOTWEAR TRENDS
From February 7 – 9, 2017, 555 brands will showcase their footwear collections for the autumn/winter 2017/2018 season at the 123rd GDS – Global Destination for Shoes & Accessories. At the concurrently held tag it! – The Private Label Show, some 100 exhibitors will be presented. GDS will be held in Halls 3 to 5 while tag it! will be staged in Hall 1. The compact and coherent structure of the three lifestyle worlds STUDIO, HIGHSTREET and POP UP as well as the extensive Trend Program make GDS the essential platform for information, networking and orders.
New Venue starting in summer 2017
After the February staging, the next GDS will be held in late August/early September closer to the season and at a different venue. But Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President & CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, the focus is on the upcoming event: “Even if this is the last time that the trade fair will take place at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Center we will show full dedication and will offer visitors an international overview of collections. Consequently, we hope many retailers will take this opportunity to attend GDS.” Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GDS and tag it!, sees both trade shows well geared up for the current market situation: “I am particularly delighted that alongside our longstanding faithful labels many new ones will be attending.”
Actor Alain-Fabien Delon coming to GDS
GDS is the hotspot for shoe trends, not just for retailers but also for VIPs and top bloggers from the fashion sector. Alain-Fabien Delon (son of actor Alain Delon and Rosalie Van Breemen) is an internationally sought-after model and considered one of France’s most promising young actors and will be at the GDS on the first day of the show. In addition, fashion bloggers and influencers will attend GDS to report about the shoe trends for the next season.
GDS Trend Program
The GDS Trend Program is a large information pool. Various installations will offer trade visitors orientation in their search for the latest trends. While the GDS Trend Spots in Hall 4 will illustrate the four most important trend themes, the GDS Trend Codes will present specific outfit ideas. The GDS Trend Talks will not only provide information but also showcase future fashion developments. The varied Trend Program will be complemented by its own fashion shows with the two HIGHSTREET exhibitors Birkenstock and Nine West as well as the range from SLEM, the international innovation and training institute for footwear and leather related industries headquartered in the Netherlands. Mini SLEMinars at GDS will provide an overview of the technology and trends of the future.
Shoe trends from classics, lifestyle and young fashion to performance and comfort – in the GDS HIGHSTREET world visitors can look forward to a colorful range of international collections. Renowned brands will include Ara Shoes, Josef Seibel, Lloyd Shoes, Mephisto, Rieker and van Lier as well as the Wortmann Group with Tamaris plus Marco Tozzi, Caprice, Jana and s.Oliver with their own individual brand presentation. In the HIGHSTREET lifestyle segment the Bestseller Group with the brands Jack & Jones, Only, Pieces, Selected and Vero Moda, Gant Footwear, Kangaroos, Kappa, Napapijri Footwear, Pikolinos and Skechers as well as Buffalo, Bullboxer and Vagabond will be represented. In the comfort segment FinnComfort, Ganter/Hassia, Giesswein, Hartjes, Jomos, Semler, Waldläufer and Wolky will be among the exhibitors. The international brands will be complemented by the likes of Alma en Pena, Hispanitas, Kanna, Unisa and Wonders from Spain, Bellò, Brunate, Bruno Premi, D’Acquasparta, Gabriele, Galizio Torresi, Liu Jo, Maripé, Nero Giardini and Nicola Benson from Italy as well as Högl, Melvin & Hamilton, Noclaim and Peter Kaiser.
Newcomers at HIGHSTREET will include the Portuguese labels Eureka, Filipe Sousa and Miss Julia, the traditional brands Berkelmans (from the Netherlands) and Loake (from Great Britain), Neapolitan glove makers Labonia, LeMouton from Croatia as well as the German belt buckle specialist Superschnalle and Warmbat, the lambskin boot pioneer from Australia..
The unique Kids’ Area in Hall 3 will bring together major labels like Bisgaard, Clic!, Ecco Kids, Falcotto, Lurchi, Naturino and Primigi with brands such as Bundgaard, Gallucci, Ikks, Kavat, Pinocchio, Pololo, Richter, Shoesme, Viking its new kids’ brand Footi, Vingino Footwear as well as France’s Groupe Royer with Aster-Mod8, Kickers Kids and Nobeez. Beyond the Kids’ Area, exhibiting within the STUDIO segment will also be Moschino Kids, Mou Kids, Polo Ralph Lauren Kids and Steiff Kids.
The STUDIO segment will house style-forming brands with high-quality collections displaying handcrafted perfection. Barracuda, Buday Shoes, Carine, Catarina Martins, COM, Divino, Etty Leon, Fabi, Jean Biani and Laloba will be new exhibitors in this GDS world. Long time exhibitors will include ASH, Arche, Calvin Klein, Jil Sander Navy, Kennel & Schmenger and See by Chloé. Also attending will be Italian collections from Aquatalia, Calpierre, Donna Carolina, Elia Maurizi, Ernesto Dolani, Giorgio 1958, Gravati, La Martina, Moma and Officine Creative. From Spain Chie Mihara, Gadea, Lola Cruz, Ras, Pretty Ballerinas, Pertini and Zinda will participate. The STUDIO portfolio will be rounded off by stylish men’s collections from Alexander Hotto, Camerlengo, Floris van Bommel and Franceschetti as well as exciting bag collections from Abro, AU79, Heartentry, Numero 10 and Tosca Blu. Sporty sneakers will be showcased by Ama Deluxe, Candice Cooper, Crime London, L4K3, MaiMai, Nubikk, Primabase and Zespa.
POP UP will bring the street style from the trendy districts of the world to GDS with labels including 727 Cycleur de Luxe, A.S. 98, Blackstone, Blundstone, British Knights, Dr. Martens, Fila, HUB Footwear, Hummel, L.A. Gear, Lilimill, Loint’s of Holland, Moonah Boots, Nobrand, PLDM by Palladium, Panama Jack, Project Delray, Sendra Boots, Superga and Wednesday Whiskey. New will be ivyGroup with its premium shoe laces ivylaces, Dutch sock brand Xpooos and jR Sam from Taiwan with hand-made genuine leather shoes.
Social Media and Blogging Activities
Two “Trend Detectors” will share the latest trends and impressions throughout the trade show on the GDS as well as their own Instagram accounts: Miriam Mache from The Golden Cherry and Jacqueline Isabelle. Together with “styleranking” GDS will also again offer Social Media Consulting, advising shoe professionals on issues such as influencer marketing, blogger relations and social media management.
At the concurrently held tag it! about 100 exhibitors will present innovations from the Private Label segment. This sourcing trade show in Hall 1 will focus on shoes and accessories, on international variety as well as on a large range of price, product and quality segments.
Event: Shoe Sector meets at “Mirrors & Lights”
On the first evening of GDS and tag it! decision-makers from the industry and retail sector will enjoy the “Mirrors & Lights” get-together at the “Altes Kesselhaus” venue at Areal Böhler (Düsseldorf-Heerdt). Shuttle service to and from the exhibition center and Areal Böhler will be provided.
