MEDICA 2017, World Forum for Medicine, will address the rapid changes in the international healthcare sector. The No. 1 trade fair for this sector is renowned for not only presenting solutions for individual medical specialist disciplines but solutions for the complete “workflow” of patient treatment. This year, about 5,000 exhibitors from more than 68 nations will use MEDICA to offer the entire range of new product services and processes for impatient and outpatient care. An extensive conference program will complement the exhibits and also focus on the industry’s current changes. MEDICA will take place from November 13 – 16, 2017 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

An important topic at MEDICA 2017 will be digitalization with “networking”’ and “artificial intelligence” already influencing product development. Visitors will be able to get up to date information – through the exhibitors' new products as well as during the presentations and talks at the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM, the MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM and the MEDICA APP COMPETITION.

After a robot capable of setting up needles for infusions and biopsies was first introduced at MEDICA 2016, artificial intelligence will again be on the agenda at this year's MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM (hall 15). What in the past seemed pure science fiction is currently on the way of becoming reality. This also applies to the field of medical imaging. The first applications to use artificial intelligence for the automated detection of possible tumors on the basis of digitally generated image data from CRT or MRT systems are about to be launched on the market.

The MEDICA ECON FORUM will be the platform for political dialogue on health issues (hall 15), organized by the Techniker Krankenkasse. The opportunities and consequences resulting from the digitalization of the health sector will be a major topic.

In order to meet the needs of the international audience, the program for the accompanying conferences and the forums integrated into MEDICA has over recent years been restructured and aligned on a more international level - with many events also presented in English and rounded off by ever-new formats focusing on specific topics.

A new feature will be the MEDICA START-UP PARK in Hall 15, highlighting digital start-up companies with their eHealth applications ranging from innovative services and smart products to software applications. This will bring founders of innovative businesses together with potential business partners, investors and distribution partners. Complementing the contents presented at the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM and the MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM (both also in Hall 15), up to 40 start-ups will showcase their ideas on 5,380 square feet of exhibit space at the MEDICA START-UP PARK .

Also new will be the MEDICA LABMED FORUM, focusing on the latest trends in laboratory medicine. With the key topic “The Interdisciplinary Fascination”, laboratory medicine, molecular pathology, microbiology, medical technology and life sciences will be presented as innovation drivers for the medical sector. On four themed days, presentations and panel discussions in hall 18 will cover the following highlights: Preventive screening tests for cancer, cardiac and circulatory conditions, innovative diabetes diagnostic tools, infection and migration. The events will take place daily between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm and are free for MEDICA trade fair visitors. The cooperation partner for the forum content for is the medical publishing house Trillium.

In MEDICA’s conference program, the MEDICA ACADEMY will have its premiere. It will consist of two workshops devoted to themes related to medical practice such as imaging procedures, modern surgery procedures and an ultrasound “refresher” course. It will also address the “hand over of practices” aimed at both young physicians looking for practices and physicians planning to pass on their practices.

Additional conference program events complementing the products on display by focusing on the interests of MEDICA's important target groups will include the following: the 40th German Hospital Conference, the European Hospital Conference, the “IT DECISION-MAKERS” initiative, the DiMiMED conference for disaster and military medicine (November 14 and 15), the MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE (November 14 and 15) and the MEDICA PHYSIO CONFERENCE (November 15 and 16).

Clearly structured by halls, MEDICA 2017 will be focus on the following categories: Electromedicine / medical technology (approx. 2,500 exhibitors), laboratory technology / diagnostics, physiotherapy / orthopedic technology, commodities and consumables, information and communication technology, medical furniture and specialist furnishings for hospitals and practices.

Due to an extensive modernization project of the fairgrounds which includes the demolition of halls 1 and 2, temporary halls will be used for MEDICA 2017: Hall 18 is a modern structure centrally located between Halls 10 and 16, especially constructed for exhibitors presenting products within MEDICA's laboratory-technology and diagnostics segments, which were previously located in Halls 1 and 2. These exhibitors will also be able to use another temporary hall - Hall 3a, located between halls 3 and 4.

COMPAMED 2017, High tech solutions for medical technology will take place concurrently with MEDICA 2017. This trade fair is the internationally leading market platform for suppliers to the medical technology industry where more than 750 exhibitors will present the technology solutions and services for this sector – ranging from microtechnology and nanotechnology solutions, new materials and coatings as well as components and preliminary products to packaging and services and comprehensive contract manufacturing

This unique combination allows MEDICA and COMPAMED to represent the entire process chain and the full range of medical products, devices, and instruments, attracting about 127,000 visitors from 135 countries. As in previous years, only one ticket is necessary to visit both MEDICA and COMPAMED 2017.
