As the world's leading medical trade fair, MEDICA 2017 will take up the rapid changes in the healthcare sector with the presentation of new products by more than 5,000 exhibitors from 68 countries and by devoting the content of the accompanying conferences and expert forums to the most up to date topics. MEDICA will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany from November 13 – 16, 2017.

Digitalization is part of all aspects when it comes to supply and buzzwords such as “networking”, “big data” and “artificial intelligence” are dominating the technical discussions and are already influencing product development. At MEDICA, healthcare professionals will be able to see all the developments – be it during the presentations and talks at the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM, during the MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM and the MEDICA App COMPETITION as well as the exhibitors' new products on display.

More health applications for smartphones, tablet PCs and “wearables” will be presented at MEDICA 2017 and Artificial intelligence (AI) will also be an important topic at the MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM (Hall 15). At a recent MEDICA 2017 press event, Prof. Dr. Jochen Werner, Medical Director at the University Clinic of Essen (Germany) stated that AI is going to revolutionize the health sector: “Artificial intelligence is going to change the field of medicine forever. It will optimize and accelerate diagnostics and help to make treatments more personal. The work of physicians is going to change fundamentally.”

Medical applications based on “virtual reality” (VR) and “augmented reality” (AR) are also advancing. One of the product highlights at MEDICA 2017 will be the “3D-ARILE” AR system for surgery which projects the precise location of lymph nodes on data goggles worn during surgeries. A piece of physiotherapy equipment for patients to recline on while wearing a pair of VR goggles on to which a flight through a mountain landscape is projected while the unit makes the corresponding treatment-relevant movements, will have its première at MEDICA.

Conferences and forums
With the goal of meeting the needs of the international visitors both now and in the future, the program for the accompanying conferences and the forums integrated into MEDICA has over recent years been thoroughly restructured and has always been complemented by new formats dedicated to the latest topics.

For creative start-ups, playing an important role in the digitization of healthcare and specifically in the field of wearables for vital diagnostics, a special “platform” will be dedicated to them for the first time at MEDICA 2017: the new MEDICA START-UP PARK in Hall 15. “The company founders and their small teams of developers are simply bubbling with ideas. What they need is a boost. That is why we will connect them at MEDICA with potential business partners, investors and sales partners from around the world,” said Dr. Claudio Bucchi, the MEDICA team's trend scout and Project Manager responsible for the MEDICA START-UP PARK.

The MEDICA LABMED FORUM in Hall 18 will also be new this year. Each of the four days will be dedicated to a specific topic, offering a range of presentations and panel discussions focusing on preventive screening tests for cancer, cardiac and circulatory conditions, innovative

diabetes diagnostic tools, infection and migration. The events will all take place daily from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and are free of charge for MEDICA visitors.

Première for the MEDICA ACADEMY
One highlight of the conference program – the MEDICA ACADEMY – will be a new addition at this year's MEDICA. It will be dedicated to important topics relevant to medical practice such as updates on imaging procedures, modern surgical procedures and also an ultrasound refresher course. The MEDICA ACADEMY will also address the “hand over of practices” geared towards both young physicians looking for practices and older physicians planning to pass on their practices.

The MEDICA ACADEMY will be complemented by other highlights of the MEDICA conference program including the 40th German Hospital Conference and the European Hospital Conference, the DiMiMED conference for disaster and military medicine and the MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE as well as the MEDICA PHYSIO CONFERENCE

Globally unique – varied presentations
MEDICA is unique worldwide since it does not just deal with solutions for individual medical specialist segments but offers solutions for the complete workflow of patient treatment in one place at one time – from electromedicine / medical technology (approximately 2,500 exhibitors), laboratory technology / diagnostics, physiotherapy / orthopedic technology, commodities and consumables to information and communications technology, medical furniture and specialist furnishings for hospitals and practices.

COMPAMED 2017, High tech solutions for medical technology, will take place concurrently with MEDICA 2017. With more than 750 exhibitors, it is the internationally leading platform for suppliers to the medical technology industry.
