STRONG GROWTH FOR MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2014

With 200 exhibitors from 20 countries, the second edition of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2014, The Manufacturing Processes for Medical Technology Exhibition, closed in Singapore to strong growth. Jointly organized by Messe Düsseldorf Asia and the Singapore Precision Engineering and Tooling Association (SPETA), the event attracted 6,218 trade visitors - 35% of which came from the region. Country group exhibits from Austria, China, Germany, Japan and Singapore contributed to the increased internationality of the exhibition.

“We are pleased with the success of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2014. The second staging has not only seen a significant increase in the number of exhibitors but also a very good mix of Singaporean and international companies. Visitor numbers have also been very positive and we are greatly encouraged by the interest shown,” shared Jeremy Fong, Chairman of SPETA.

Addressing the challenges of accessing Asian markets with their different characteristics, MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA serves as the central meeting place for the medical manufacturing industry to increase potential and establish key business networks by providing an important launch pad into Asia and particularly the ASEAN region. Gernot Ringling, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia, stated: “MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA plays a significant role in bringing the latest medical manufacturing processes and technological capabilities to the forefront, giving medtech manufacturers the opportunity to discover a variety of manufacturing solutions and develop business connections necessary to grow their business successfully in the region.”

Enhanced business opportunities at MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2014

For Sunningdale Tech, a leading Asian tooling, plastics injection molding and precision assembly company, MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2014 was a very important exhibition to showcase their products. “We’ve had a lot of people come to us with their designs and discussions to mass produce and we’ve talked to many interested customers”, said Simon Tan, Senior Vice President.

IVAM, a German association consisting of micro technology and micro-nanotechnology companies, and the organizer of a medical device symposium at the inaugural edition of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA, returned to the exhibition this year as a country pavilion organizer in order to promote better business relations between Southeast Asian companies and Germany. “80% of our members produce products for the medical technology sector and we are here because we want to support our members in doing business in Asia as well as help Asian companies do business in Germany and Europe,” said Dr. Thomas R. Dietrich, Chief Executive Officer. “Our experience this year has been very good and we have seen a lot of Asian visitors, particularly from Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea, making this a good hub for German companies to start their business in Asia.”

Co-located conference

The concurrently held MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2014 conference with the topic “Reaching New Horizons in Medical Manufacturing” drew 154 delegates over three days. A renowned panel of 15 international speakers discussed the present and future of additive manufacturing in medical applications. The delegates also visited two additive manufacturing facilities: the NTU Additive Manufacturing Centre and the NYP Additive Manufacturing Innovation Centre.

Delivering the keynote address was internationally prominent speaker Prof. Stuart Williams, Director, Bioficial Organs Program, University of Louisville. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the interaction from people all over the world coming to Singapore to learn about the world-class state of the art capabilities here. This is a great opportunity to explore the many manufacturers and instrument developers at this exhibition – it’s an overwhelming breadth of technology that you see from the medical device manufacturing sector.”

MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA will return to Singapore from August 31 - September 2, 2016.
