December 2008 DRUPA 2008 REPORT WINS RED DOT AWARDThe “drupa 2008 report” issues No. 3 and 4 were recently awarded the “red dot” for outstanding design. The “red dot” is one of the most sought-after international design prizes and is awarded annually during the international “red dot award: communication design“ to products with ambitious and innovative designs. This year, a jury of 14 international expert designers selected 381 award winners from the almost 6,000 samples submitted by 39 nations. An exhibition at the “red dot design museum” in Essen, Germany will present the winning designs until January 11, 2009. Holger Giffhorn of Giffhorn Design in Germany is responsible for the design of the drupa report, which previously received other design awards. “As the organizers of drupa, we are especially pleased with this award. The “drupa report” plays a major role in our communication activities since it is a flagship of our image, serves as an information medium and of course reflects the dynamic printing industries”, commented Manuel Mataré, Project Director of drupa at Messe Düsseldorf. This success also underlines the long-standing close cooperation between the customer Messe Düsseldorf, the designer (Design office Holger Giffhorn) and the printer (Druckstudio Düsseldorf). Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, Head of the North-Rhine Westphalia Design ZENTRUM, who initiated the “red dot desig award”, stated: “This year’s applications emphasize the high demand for the “red dot” quality label. Awards were given to less than 6.5% of all works submitted. This is a tough competition and only the best and most creative works submitted in a dozen of competition categories lived up to the critical opinions of the jury”. “red dot design award”– background information With over 9,000 works submitted, the “red dot design award” is one of the leading and largest designer competitions worldwide. It is subdivided into a “red dot award” for product design, a “red dot award” for communication design and a “red dot award” for design concepts. Since 1955, the Design Zentrum of North-Rhine Westphalia in Germany has annually awarded prizes for outstanding design quality results, which are then presented in an exhibition.
