August 2009 drupa REPORT NO. 1 FOCUSES ON “GREEN PRINTING”A few weeks after the start of the 1,000 days countdown campaign for drupa 2012, print media trade fair, the drupa report no. 1 is available in English and German. The topic of the award-winning magazine is “Green Printing” and the environment and sustainability in all their aspects are a recurring theme in the 54-page report: international authors describe the current situation in selected countries (China, Great Britain, India, Scandinavia and the U.S.), experts from ClimatePartner provide tips on CO2 reduction and a study by Prognos AG on behalf of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) shows that sensibly implemented ecology can pay off economically. “Sustainability and environmental protection are increasingly playing a major role in the printing and media industries. This was evident at the last drupa staging, when many exhibitors had related products on display, which generated a lot of interest among the visitors,” commented Manuel Mataré, Project Director of drupa. “We wanted to take this new development into account with the current drupa report.” The drupa report no. 1 also emulates the topic in its production: the entire drupa report, including the supplement, has been produced in a carbon-neutral fashion – according to the natureOffice method which exclusively uses Gold Standard emission compensation certificates. Both were printed by a printer certified for carbon-neutral printing in Düsseldorf, Germany (Druckstudio GmbH) on FSC-certified paper in matte and gloss quality (Satimat and Main Gloss Green from Arjowiggins/Antalis respectively), all of the dyes and printing varnish used (Terra Green from Actega) are based on renewable raw materials. Even the Iriodin varnish (red and silver pigments) meets this ecological standard. Overall, more than 23,000 lbs of CO2 was compensated for, taking these sustainable criteria into account. The drupa report no. 1 will be available at the drupa booth (6515) at PRINT 09 in Chicago (September 11 - 16). “Maintaining direct contact with our customers and remaining in communication with them is very important to us. PRINT 09 is a good opportunity, since it takes place half a year before we send out the drupa exhibitor applications,” stated Manuel Mataré. drupa will also have a presence at PackPrint International (September 23 - 26, 2009 in Bangkok), Ipex (May 18 - 25, 2010 in Birmingham) and All in Print (November 14 - 17, 2011 in Shanghai). Other key dates for drupa 2012 have also been set: the exhibitor registration deadline will be October 30, 2010 and placement talks and layout planning will start in February 2011. The worldwide visitor promotion will begin in summer 2011 – less than a year before the start of drupa on May 3, 2012.
