Messe Düsseldorf North America VISITOR INCREASE AT HOSPITALAR 2007The 14th staging of Hospitalar, International Fair for Products, Equipment, Services and Technology for Hospitals, Health Clinics and Laboratories, attracted 76,000 trade visitors from 62 countries when it recently took place in São Paulo, Brazil. Hospitalar was held concurrently with OdontoBrasil, 3rd International Fair for Products, Equipment, Services and Technology for Dentistry, and both events featured 1,000 exhibitors from 15 Brazilian states and 30 countries. On 710,400 square feet of exhibit space, the exhibitors displayed the latest technology, products, equipment and medical services for hospitals, laboratories, clinics, medical and dental offices. Over 50 congresses and seminars on healthcare management complemented the exhibits. All the activities at Hospitalar 2007 resulted in US$ 2 billon in estimated business deals – a 5% increase compared to the show’s last staging. According to Dr. Waleska Santos, President of Hospitalar, these results confirm the trade fair’s status as the most important platform in Brazil for professionals from the healthcare sector: “Hospitalar is a global trade fair. Our plans for 2008 and in the future are to continue growing and including new sectors. Following the example set internationally, we especially believe in the expansion of the rehabilitation, diagnosis, home care and dentistry sectors”. Exhibitors were pleased with the quality of the visitors, which included top-level directors of hospitals, clinics and laboratories; nurses and doctors; distributors and sales representatives; dentists and other professionals involved in the healthcare sector; manufacturers; trade associations and government agencies. Due to the good results of Hospitalar 2007, 70% of the exhibitors already decided to participate in the 2008 event. The international participation both on the visitor and exhibitor side increased compared to the 2006 staging: 2,335 foreign buyers were registered, representing 61 countries – and increase of 12.7% - while the number of exhibitors from outside of Brazil rose from 292 to 302 companies. Hospitalar 2007 featured several country group exhibits, including from Germany, Italy, Pakistan and the U.S. The German group was organized by the German Healthcare Products Exports Group and included 18 companies. The Italian exhibitor group, organized by Promos, a Milan Chamber of Commerce Division, took part for the first time. “We consider Hospitalar a strategic trade fair, as it is the key channel to all Latin America”, commented Ileana Colombo, a Promos representative. The Embassy of Pakistan in Brazil, together with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, organized the participation of a group with 15 companies. “The opportunity of participating in this trade fair cannot be ignored, as Brazil is a market of great interest to Pakistan”, stated Nazir Ahmad Awan, Business Consultant of the Embassy. The U.S. Pavilion featured 12 companies and was organized by Messe Düsseldorf North America. Preparations for Hospitalar 2008 have already begun and the international promotion will start in November 2007 during the MEDICA trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. The organizers of both medical trade fairs have cooperated for over 10 years and just renewed the cooperation agreement for another five years. The next staging of Hospitalar is scheduled for June 10 – 13, 2008 at the Expo Center Norte in São Paulo, Brazil.
