February 2009 PROWEIN 2009 TO FEATURE OVER 300 SPIRITS SUPPLIERSAmong the more than 3,000 exhibitors at ProWein 2009, International Trade Fair for Wines and Spirits, about 300 will present first-class spirits. For the first time, the extensive assortment of fine liqueurs, brandies and whiskeys at the event will also be available in form of a pocket guide. ProWein will take place from March 29 – 31, 2009 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany. As with wines, “organic” is an important topic when it comes to spirits and ProWein 2009 will feature a large variety of organic products - from vodka made of organically grown grain and organic cognac to elderberry liqueur from organic farming. Other highlights will be bitters made from 58 herb and spice extracts and cognac sold in a golden box with Swarovski crystals. The bar scene will present itself at ProWein 2009 with new trend drinks, mixed cocktails and colorful punches. A total of 25 countries will be represented in the spirits segment, including for the first time Martinique and Belarus. At the FIZZZ Lounge of Meininger Publishing, drinks from past decades will be offered under the motto "Vintage Cocktails". Bartender legend Bill Deck and his son David will mix cocktails from the old days as well as their contemporary interpretations. Bill Deck is considered a pioneer of the classic American bar in Germany. He brought the concept to Germany more than 30 years ago and opened Pusser's in Munich. The ancillary program at ProWein 2009 will also incorporate spirits, such as a hosted grappa tasting, a seminar on "Chocolate and Brandies" and the special show "Wine's Best Friends".
