June 2007 INTERNATIONAL WIRE AND CABLE INDUSTRY MET AT WIRE RUSSIA 2007From May 27 – 31, 2007, 234 exhibitors from 29 countries presented their latest technologies for the wire and cable industry at wire Russia 2007, International Wire and Cable Trade Fair. Since its first staging in 2003, the event grew by about 40%. More than 13,500 visitors from all parts of the Russian Federation came to Moscow to view and order the products on display (the visitor number includes attendees at the currently held Metallurgy-Limash, Tube Russia and Aluminium/Non-Ferrous trade shows). The 10% increase in visitor participation shows the willingness of the Russian industry to invest in machinery and equipment. “Our strategy to actively be involved in the development of trade fair markets in growing regions and to accompany our customers into new markets has fully paid off in Russia,” commented Werner M. Dornscheidt, President & CEO of Messe Düsseldorf. The event was organized by Messe Düsseldorf, its subsidiary Messe Düsseldorf Moscow and the All-Russian Cable Scientific Research and Development Institute (VNIIKP). Numerous national and international associations contributed to the success of wire Russia 2007, including the International Wire and Cable Exhibitors Association (IWCEA) and its national associations, the International Wire & Machinery Association (IWMA), the Italian Wire Machinery Manufacturers Association (ACIMAF) and the Wire and Cable Industry Suppliers Association (WCISA). wire Russia 2007 featured not only international market leaders but country group exhibits from Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and the U.S. The exhibitors benefited from the investment potential and the Russian economic growth of about 7%. 44% of all imports to Russia are machinery and equipment and this trend continues to increase, making Russia an interesting market for companies in the wire and cable sector. The exhibitors were pleased with the quality and quantity of the visitors at wire Russia 2007 and the concurrently held Metallurgy-Litmash, Tube Russia, Aluminium/Non-Ferrous, SHK Moscow and Schweissen and Schneiden Russia 2007. “This perfect combination gave visitors the opportunity to get a comprehensive overview,” stated Philip G. Knight, Executive Secretary of the International Wire & Machinery Association. Prof. I. B. Peshkov, President of the All-Russian Cable Scientific Research and Development Institute, was delighted with the wire Russia 2007 results: “All the top companies from the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarus as well as important representatives of international associations were in Moscow. Our trade fair has developed into a leading trade fair in Russia – with a high level in service and professionalism.” For information on visiting or exhibiting at the next staging of wire Russia in 2009, contact Messe Düsseldorf North America, 150 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 2920, Chicago, IL 60601.
