RESOUNDING SUCCESS OF WIRE AND TUBE SINGAPORE 2005

At the concurrent staging of wire Singapore 2005, The All-Asia Wire & Cable Trade Fair, and Tube Singapore 2005, The All-Asia Tube and Pipe Trade Fair, 285 exhibitors from 31 countries showcased their products to 4,502 trade visitors from 66 nations. Southeast Asia’s leading trade fairs for the wire, cable, tube and pipe industries were recently held in Singapore for the sixth and fifth time respectively.

The increase in the overall attendance figures signifies a new optimism in the region’s manufacturing and infrastructure development sectors and both trade fairs have developed into a respected hub for manufacturers, service providers and businesses across Southeast Asia.

The visitor attendance represents an increase of approximately 11 percent compared to the shows’ last staging in 2003. A total of 56 percent of the visitors at wire and Tube Singapore 2005 came from outside of Singapore. Southeast Asia (excluding Singapore) accounted for almost 35 percent of the visitors, with strong representation from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Visitor participation from Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam increased between 13 - 50 percent compared to the 2003 results.  The positive growth reinforces the trade fairs’ strategic positioning as a regional hub for the wire, cable, tube and pipe industries.

According to a visitor survey (730 trade visitors):

  • The Internet and attending trade fairs were the two main means for visitors to obtain the latest information on products and technology.

  • 90.5 percent of the visitors were pleased with the range of products and services on display at both trade fairs.

  • 91 percent of the visitors indicated that they will likely purchase some of the showcased products; 56 percent are expected to do so within the next 12 months.

The exhibitors’ comments were characterized by renewed enthusiasm and confidence in the regional Asian markets. According to their responses, the majority of the exhibiting companies:

  • have met with their objectives of their participation particularly in the areas of assessing the market potential, maintaining corporate presence, service existing businesses, introducing new products to the region, enhancing their value chain and in generating new businesses.

  • have expressed that their expectations of both trade fairs have been met and that they were satisfied with the quality and internationality of the visitors.

  • were impressed with the decision making authority of the visitors.

  • were able to meet their targeted customers and potential buyers from the building and construction, electrical and electronics, engineering and sub-contracting, metalworking and telecommunications industries.

Exhibitors are also expecting busy post-show business. Many companies reported that they either made significant deals or received good sales leads. These companies anticipate finalizing the sales in the coming months.
