PROWEIN 2014 ANCILLARY PROGRAM WITH 300 EVENTS
A diverse ancillary program with over 300 events will complement the comprehensive wines and spirits displays by some 4,700 exhibitors from 50 nations at ProWein 2014, International Trade Fair Wines and Spirits. The event will take place from March 23 – 25, 2014 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.
From guided introductions to the new vintages and background information on particular grape varieties, wine-growing regions and styles to forecasts about future wine markets and trends – the spectrum of the events during ProWein 2014 will be very broad. The line-up of speakers will include award-winning sommeliers, international expert journalists as well as leading specialists in the sector. Most of the over 300 tastings and lectures organized by exhibitors will take place at their stands. In addition, the ProWein Forum in Hall 7.1 will feature special events: in line with the anniversary of ProWein, the German Wine Institute (DWI) will offer the “20 Years of ProWein – 20 German Vintages” tasting hosted by Stuart Pigott while the German trade magazine “Wein + Markt” will hold a seminar on successful retail concepts and best-practice examples.
With themed tastings, numerous exhibitors will demonstrate the country-specific characteristics of their wines and spirits. Shigekazu Misawa from the multiple award-winning wine estate Grace will present the Koshu wine for the first time at ProWein while the California Wine Institute will invite visitors on a “California Road Trip”. Wine and food pairings and blind tastings will be the topic of the seminars organized by the “Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)”. Wine prices will be in the theme of the events of USA Wine West, LLC (“Wine Exports to the United States: How much do your 3-Euro Wines cost for US Consumers?) and the Italian ICE Institute (wines in the Euro 10 price range and higher).
The spirits segment of ProWein 2014 will also have a lot to offer: the distillery Hubertus Vallendar will present their signature drinks under the heading “Stirred – Not Shaken” while Distillerie Tessendier & Fils will invite visitors to mix their own drinks in a creative Cocktail Workshop.
The “Vision 2034” panel discussion organized by ProWein and the British market research institute Wine Intelligence will provide a glance into the future. The discussions will focus on five theses about the development of the wine sector until 2034 which are the results of a global market survey commissioned by ProWein. Another seminar also held by Wine Intelligence will discuss growth potential in 2014.
Awards and Prizes
At one of the many award events at ProWein 2014, the German Wine Institute will honor Germany’s “Best Wine Gastronomies” while at the Winestars World contest, high-caliber buyers from different countries will judge the submitted international wines and select potential suppliers.
Special shows at ProWein 2014 will include the central Tasting Zone in Hall 2 organized in cooperation with the trade magazine “Weinwirtschaft” from the Meininger publishing house - this year with the motto “Premium Wines” - while the FIZZZ-Lounge in the spirits hall 7a will present “Garden Drinks” (spirits combined with fresh vegetable juices). In Hall 7.1 the special show “wine’s best friends” will focus on high-end fine foods complementing wines and spirits.
