SPECIAL THEME “SAVE FOOD CHINA” AT SWOP 2017
Shanghai World of Packaging (swop) - leading processing and packaging exhibition for China and the Asia-Pacific region, will introduce the special theme “SAVE FOOD China” with an exhibit and forum focusing on packaging concept and solutions to reduce food loss and waste. swop will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from November 7 – 10, 2017. Exhibitor registration for SAVE FOOD and swop 2017 is open at http://www.swop-online.com and the deadline for the early-bird discount is end of March 2017. swop is organized by Messe Düsseldorf Shanghai, a subsidiary of Messe Düsseldorf – organizer of interpack, the No. 1 international trade fair for this sector.
swop 2017 will be a unique platform for products and solutions in packaging technology and related processes as well as packaging media and materials for the industry segments food, beverage, confectionery and baked goods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, non-food consumer goods and industrial goods.
As one of the founders of SAVE FOOD, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) strongly supports SAVE FOOD China and promotes it to all its members internationally, making the launch of SAVE FOOD in China a highly anticipated event. It has also attracted many socially responsible suppliers with innovative technologies in the packaging industry who are eager to participate: MULTIVAC, Danbell Equipment, Beijing Lantsai, Huayi Plastic, Dupont and Xiamen Changsu as well as Avery Dennison, Sealed Air, TOMRA, and Berry Plastics. This year’s SAVE FOOD China Forum agenda will be announced in April, with themes focusing on food storage, shelf life extension and preservation of fresh fruits and vegetables. The target participants come from the four main categories of swop: food, beverage, confectionery and baked goods.
Recently, the Quali Meat International Meat Safety Research Project was formally launched in Austria with Euro 1 million in investment and an estimated three years until completion. This project is designed to develop various types of packaging for extending the shelf life of fresh meat products and promoting safe consumption through research of the interaction between packaging materials and products. MULTIVAC, a world leading packaging equipment manufacturer, will provide a range of advisement on packaging, packaging equipment and processing during the project and will customize suitable molds, produce packaging samples and conduct trials at it headquarter in Germany. The thermoforming stretch film packaging machine produced by MULTIVAC helped British meat processer Dovecote Park to extend the shelf life of its products by 100% and increase the company’s turnover by nearly 20%.
The decay, deterioration, and mildew associated with the microbial dangers of food are closely related to oxygen and moisture. Protective properties of packaging materials are necessary in order to prevent food from spoiling and precise measurements become the basis for predicting foods’ shelf life. Beijing Danbel Instrument Co., Ltd., plans to participate in SAVE FOOD China this year and is the sole agent for MOCON and its affiliate DANSENSOR. They are industry leaders in modified atmosphere packaging technology and provide instruments for packaging testing, including oxygen permeation apparatuses, moisture meters, sealing devices, gas mixing equipment for modified atmosphere packaging and headspace analyzers. These technologies serve analytical purposes for the packaging of beverage, dairy, snack foods, dried fruits, spices, baked foods, fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to the study of food preservation and shelf life to avoid insufficient or excessive packaging. The equipment used by the research and development laboratories at industry leading companies such as Nestle, Pepsi, and COFCO is provided by MOCON and DANSENSOR.
An important topic in the sector is intelligent packaging. Smart Tag, developed and patented by SAVE FOOD China exhibitor Beijing Lantsai Technology Co., Ltd, provided strong incentives for intelligent packaging. Based on the data which shows that products deteriorate under abnormal storage and transportation conditions, the company’s technology can consistently monitor the product quality in the sectors of logistics and sale of the products as well as the temperature inside and outside the package and the time. Consumers can directly identify the freshness of the product by the gradual color change from green to red. This Smart Tag technology will be applied to upstream and downstream tracing in cold storage, which can monitor each link from production, transportation to consumption and can comprehensively monitor the quality of common perishable products such as food and beverage, medication, vaccine and cosmetics.
The number of companies registered to visit swop 2017 rose by 50% compared to the last show in 2015. In less than one month since the opening of the visitor pre-registration, numerous renowned companies have registered to attend, including Yum! Brands, Mengniu Dairy, 3M, BAUMER, IKEA, Dupont, Good Boy, Honeywell, Intel and Nippon Paint.
